INSPIRING HOME LEARNING
At the Inspire Learning Federation, we have high expectations for all children regarding home learning and provide weekly opportunities that support and enable children to practise and consolidate skills they have been or will be learning in school. We believe that it deepens subject knowledge, fluency and understanding in reading, spelling and mathematics and continues the reflective thinking process beyond the classroom.
Children in our schools are set a variety of home learning challenges that enable them to rehearse learning before and after the lesson.
We recognise the vital contribution that parents make to their child’s education. It is our aim to work in partnership through our Parent Focus Group, in order to ensure that learning is seen as a process that is not confined to the classroom alone.
The Inspiring Home Learning Principles:
Home learning may be provided through online videos that are inclusive and enable rapid classroom progress through observing, practising and reflecting at home.
Home learning should improve a child’s thinking and memory and help them to develop positive study skills and habits that will serve them well throughout life.
Home learning allows children to challenge themselves by applying skills in new situations and by taking pride in persevering with it, regardless of difficulties or problems.
Home learning should ignite a passion in children to explore and extend their own thinking, ideas and knowledge using resources, such as libraries, reference materials and computer Web sites.
Home learning should develop trust, self-confidence and independence in children so that they work creatively to achieve their best.
Home learning should enable children to assume responsibility for its completion as through this, they will learn to be accountable for their actions, manage time and make decisions in later life.
Home learning should encourage some interaction between parent and child as this can have a significant impact on a child’s language, literacy and mathematical development.
